NBC executive are just simply annoying and fucking stupid. First news break out that NBC is ditching iTunes for their own TV show distribution(Windows only by the way). Now they dumped YouTube’s direct channel that featured non other than the SNL hit “Junk in a Box”. It had over 28 million views!!! How can they possibly ignore that for a website they are building called Hulu (even the name blows). Same goes for Viacom which recently released their own video site for Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show.
They sued YouTube and then built a site once they realized how many people wanted to take sneak peeks at shows. Here is how it works: I watch the Daily Show at night and find something funny, so I would go to YouTube and look for it. Surprisingly enough it was always there… so I would show it to my friends, and they would show to their fiends (this is viral marketing by the way). It has to be done by someone else…not yourself, since it defeats the purpose!!! Now all daily show videos have adds…annoying ones(only new videos). So sneaking behind your boss to watch a quick video is interrupted by truck or burger ads(unlike youtube’s overlays).
I watch The Office (success owed to iTunes) and Las Vegas. So where do I go to get the latest episodes…you guessed it…torrents! Which has over 1 million download/week for popular shows like The Office or Prison Break.
Just like music TV execs need to realize that the internets are here to stay and figure out a way to make money without annoying users.
Back to you Jon:
