Warner CEO Finally Accepts His Screw Up

I never though I would live to see the day that Edgar Bronfman (CEO Warner Music) actually admit the whole music industry was so screwed up. He praised Apple at the GSMA Mobile Asia Congress in Macau while addressing a speech to mobile operators, pleading them to not make the same mistakes they did. :

We used to think our content was perfect just exactly as it was. We expected our business would remain blissfully unaffected even as the world of interactivity, constant connection and file sharing was exploding. And of course we were wrong. How were we wrong? By standing still or moving at a glacial pace, we inadvertently went to war with consumers by denying them what they wanted and could otherwise find and as a result of course, consumers won.

Good for you!!! It only took you 8 years!!! It’s better late than never. Now on keeping with the agenda, how about what consumers really want: FREE MUSIC!!!

I am no anarchist, but there really is little value added for music you can easily get for free! They need to start offering premium content and more live shows, in order to subset what has already been lost.

Apple managed to become the third largest music retailer(even with piracy through the roof) by offering a premium product(fast and easy to use) from the convenience of home. Even though it’s worked so far, prices will tend to go lower, as the piracy learning curve goes down. People want to pay for value added things. For instance: concerts, exclusive content, and other material goods. If you can get it or free elsewhere, you better have a really good product, easy to use, or have really exclusive stuff. Otherwise you are doomed to failure.

Now keep the music revolution continue!
