Google can be considered a green company, not because of what it says now, but because of what it’s done in the past:
-The Googleplex solar panels
-Google.org green investment fund
-Positioning of data centers near cheap renewable hydroelectric power in Oregon Now it has actually committed to developing electricity from renewable energy sources! Why? It is not because of their huge heart or pocket(like oil companies’ “research” for renewable energy), but rather because of the rising cost of energy (did someone say data centers?) I am not criticizing their motives, but rather pointing out that the pain suffered by companies like these will spur innovation. The investments made by Google will probably have great collateral effects that we’ll benefit from. It is all about their bottom line, which they are helping, while being green. And that is good! This is just a piece of the overall long tail of the energy solutions that will start to appear in years to come. I am placing my bets on small companies to deliver us from this crazy little thing called
