MediaTemple: Marketing to your customers via Maintenance Update

I got an email from MediaTemple today reminding me that there would be really long downtime on Friday night since they will be upgrading their power redundancies. The cool part was were they referenced rackspace for their recent catastrophe. So basically, if any of MediaTemple customers weren’t aware of the Dallas accident(36 hour downtime), they will now, thus giving them something to brag about…..for now.

This larger than normal maintenance period is a proactive measure to prevent power failure incidents as experienced by various other data centers mentioned in recent news. We would like to remind all customers that scheduled infrastructure maintenance and security related updates are a necessary and vital aspect of web hosting that ensures the long term uptime and reliability of your services.

This is a wake up call for everyone that depends on hosting companies to deliver the food. Don’t buy their marketing crap!

After the incident, rackspace still has there “Zero-Downtime Network” on their site(they even trade marked it!).
