True geeks don’t read Variety or Maxim. They turn to Vallewag for their gossip: “interesting” piece on Marrissa Mayer. I actually saw her up close in Google’s Seattle Scalability Conference last year. She spoke about scaling Google for every user(very interesting):
P.S: I am the guy in the red shirt….shit you not….lol
After the whole Microsoft-Yahoo debacle I realized(as most people) how powerful Google really is and their insistency that they are still the small guys. A couple of years ago, maybe. Today that is not the case.
The latest shitstorm to hit Mountain View is regarding the Google Toolbar, which replaces 404 pages less than 512k [...]
Owen Thomas on Yang’s original turn around plan:
Four months ago, Yang reassigned hundreds of employees to skunkworks projects, with the goal to make Yahoo “relevant.” They’re now working on a few specific projects:
-Rethinking the Yahoo homepage
-Consolidating Yahoo’s plethora of social networks
-Opening up Yahoo to third parties with a consistent platform similar to Facebook’s
-Revamping Yahoo’s network [...]
Karen, from the official Google blog on the implications of the Microsoft-Yahoo! purchase:
Could the acquisition of Yahoo! allow Microsoft — despite its legacy of serious legal and regulatory offenses — to extend unfair practices from browsers and operating systems to the Internet? In addition, Microsoft plus Yahoo! equals an overwhelming share of instant messaging and [...]
This comes as no surprise since it’s been a long time coming. It’s sad to see the 250 million user base search engine….no wait portal….or is it mash up….sorry….ad network(this identity confusion is what got them in trouble in the first place) be it’s even clearer path to disappearing.

With all the crap Jason Calacanis get in the blog sphere for being an idiot, he is actually into something with Mahalo. Growth is really starting to pick up at a steady rate (almost at an unbelievable rate). I am not declaring Mahalo a winner yet, but it’s sure proven a point.
My big problem [...]
Building scalable web apps on a budget is increasingly easy with Amazon’s multiple Web Services. On demand cloud computing, storage and now SimpleDB. As described in their website:
Amazon SimpleDB is easy to use and provides the core functionality of a database - real-time lookup and simple querying of structured data - without the operational complexity. [...]
Apparently Google does too. Enter Knol. It is new google wiki….although nowhere in the article do they actually mention the word wiki at all, even though it’s now standard. Here is the comment I left at the techcruch article (there’s a screenshot!)
Please note that the original google blog post dose not mention the word “wiki [...]
Google maps just released an interesting but dead simple feature to start correcting business locations:
Now you can find it on Google Maps and move the marker to its front door. You might just save someone’s date with this information! Fixing markers can be downright addictive. I’ve spent hours using Street View to locate businesses and [...]
Steven Frank is right (on Google’s Android):
People don’t want FEATURES. They’ll tell you they do until they’re blue in the face. But what they actually want is ease-of-use, and solutions to real-world problems — looking at a map, finding nearby restaurants, sending a photo to a friend without going through 6 submenus, not to mention [...]
