Shuttleworth: Make Desktop Linux Better than Apple

Mark Shuttleworth:
Can we not only emulate, but can we blow right past Apple?
The problem with most Linux developers is that they want to make things because they are “cool” not because the regular Joe(target market for mass adoption) would find it practical. I doubt that well see anything that “blows right past Apple”, but I [...]

iPhone 2.0 Tips: Firmware 2.0 Has A New URL Trick

As we saw with earlier iPhone releases, Apple is adding “hidden” features in keyboard buttons, like foreign letters or in this case URL terminations like “.edu” or “.org”.
I am all for making things easier and typing less, but what is the visual cue for this? Can developers do this on any button, or does [...]

Go to an Apple Store and get laid?

Cosmos article on “The Best Place to Meet Single Guys“:
Hot spot: The Apple store
The draw: Most guys are natural gadget lovers, and with sales of iPods and MacBooks skyrocketing, more men than ever are stopping by Apple boutiques. The vibe at the stores is conducive to man meeting too: You can check your email among [...]

Blogshphere Bashers

A blogger named M.B. Darden wrote an article about his first experience at an Apple Store. The interesting thing is his follow up article where he comments on people’s comments(insults). I don’t advocate this kind of behavior at all, but I have to hand it to this really weird anonymous coward’s comment:
your light gray font [...]

SuperDuper! 2.5 Released!

SuperDuper! the great backup utility has been upgraded to be Leopard compatible. The cool thing is that the backup can live side by side with a Time Machine backup in the same drive. Among other changes, the interface has dropped the brushed metal(finally).

Journler Changes Licensing

People are cheap. No matter how much money they make/have they will always want things free or try to steal things if they don’t perceive the value of it. I’ve never used Journler but have heard great things about it. It’s sad to see how cheap people really are. I am actually glad the developer, [...]

MarsEdit Updated to 2.1

Daniel Jalkut from Red Sweater, jut updated my favorite blogging app MarsEdit. It has some interesting feature upgrades like:
-Improved Tagging(more Mac like)
-Better searching(fast even while testing it with 100 blog posts…even though the max recommended is 30)
-Save as draft to server (not a big deal for me since I don’t like the Wordpress back-end anyway).
But [...]

Transmission will be default torrent client in Ubuntu

This is a great win for all Mac users!!! I don’t like using bloated (usually JAVA) software on a Mac(or ever for that matter) and thus the reason I don’t use Azureus. Many private trackers limit the types of torrent clients that can be used, thus not allowing you to use their service with Transmission. [...]

Firefox 3 beta 2 for Mac : Web form rendering

Since I switched to a Mac, a couple of years back, I noticed that Firefox was rather slow and a complete memory hog in OS X.
That seems to be a thing of the past when the new Firefox 3 beta 2 arrived. Not only does it have a more Mac-like GUI, but it really [...]

Awaken 4 Released

Jerry Brace from Embraceware has just released v4 of his Mac OS X alarm clock. Very nice upgrade and site refresh(very cool looking). This is one of my recommended software, for it’s sleek, minimalist and easy to use approach. It is actually great for setting the computer to sleep without having to go to Energy [...]
